Overview

High Pressure Water Jetting Essex — what it is, who it's for, when it's needed.

What high-pressure water jetting is

Controlled use of pressurised water (up to 4000 PSI) delivered through specialised nozzles to cut, scour and flush deposits from the inside walls of drainage pipes. Different nozzles do different jobs: forward-firing nozzles cut blockages, backward-firing nozzles flush debris and pull the hose through, rotating nozzles scour pipe walls clean, and chain-flail nozzles cut roots and scale. The right pressure for the right pipe is what makes jetting safe and effective.

Who needs it

Anyone with a blockage a plunger and rod can't shift — heavy fat, calcified scale, root ingress, compacted silt, wet wipes in a soil run. Commercial kitchens where grease has built up over months. Schools and managed estates where silt has settled in surface-water gullies. Anyone with a recurring blockage that needs the pipe wall scoured clean, not just punched through.

When jetting is the right answer

Once rodding has failed or the deposit is structural (scale, hardened fat, roots, silt). For commercial PPM cleans where the pipe needs to be returned to full bore. For pre-CCTV-survey cleans where the camera needs a clean pipe wall to give a meaningful inspection. For post-construction cleans where building debris has been washed into drains.

Why a specialist matters

Jetting at the wrong pressure on the wrong pipe material is what causes the damage stories you read online. A pressure-washer pointed down a drain is not jetting — it's how to fracture old clay and pitch-fibre. We use calibrated industrial kit with multiple nozzle types, dial pressure to the pipe material, and verify with CCTV before and after.

What happens if it's ignored

The cost of waiting.

Cheap or amateur jetting causes more damage than it fixes. Here's the failure profile we see when jobs get inherited from a previous contractor:

Common mistakes we see

  • Using a domestic pressure washer down a drain — wrong nozzle, wrong pressure, wrong outcome.
  • Jetting without a CCTV check first — you don't know what condition the pipe is in.
  • Choosing the cheapest van on Google — calibrated industrial jetting kit is expensive for a reason.
  • Skipping post-jet CCTV verification — no proof the pipe is clear or undamaged.
  • Repeating the same jet on a structurally damaged pipe — the deposit reforms because the pipe is failing.

Fractured pipe walls

Standard pressure-washer nozzles at full pressure on old clay or pitch-fibre will fracture joints and walls. We see this monthly — a £250 botched jet becomes a £4,000 collapsed-run repair.

Blockage pushed further down the system

Forward-firing nozzles used incorrectly push the blockage past easy access — into a deeper chamber or out into the public sewer. You pay twice.

Foreign objects driven into pipe walls

Wet wipes and rags pressure-jetted without a CCTV check first can compact into the pipe wall, requiring excavation to remove. Camera first, jet second.

Recurring blockages from incomplete cleans

A 'punch through' jet that clears the immediate blockage but leaves the deposit on the pipe walls means the same blockage reforms within weeks. Proper scouring is what stops the cycle.

Our process

A clear, documented system — every visit, every job.

  1. 01

    1. Phone diagnosis

Two-minute call with Matt to scope the symptoms, agree an ETA and confirm pricing brackets before we leave the yard. No call-out fee for the conversation.

  2. 02

    2. On-site inspection

We lift covers, run flow tests and — where relevant — drop the CCTV camera in to identify the actual cause, not the easiest symptom.

  3. 03

    3. Fixed written quote

Itemised price covering parts, labour, disposal and timeline. You approve in writing before any tools come out of the van.

  4. 04

    4. Service execution

Work carried out cleanly: dust sheets, tool mats and bagged waste. We protect floors, gardens and driveways throughout.

  5. 05

    5. Test, photograph, sign-off

Post-works flow test, CCTV verification where appropriate, photos and a written job sheet emailed within 24 hours plus our workmanship guarantee.

Benefits

What you actually get.

Heavy deposits cleared in one visit

Fat, scale, roots, silt and compacted debris removed in a single planned visit. No staged cleans, no repeat call-outs.

Pipe-friendly

Calibrated pressure for the actual pipe material — clay, pitch-fibre and old cast iron get dialled-down jetting, not blanket 4000 PSI.

CCTV before and after

We jet to a measurable standard — the pipe wall is visibly clean on the post-jet camera footage. MP4 supplied on request.

Full pipe bore restored

Properly scoured pipe walls return the drain to design flow rate — not just a temporary punch through.

Commercial PPM ready

We run scheduled commercial jetting contracts for schools, restaurants, retail and managed estates across Essex and Suffolk.

Same-day service

Most Essex and Colchester emergency jetting jobs receive an engineer the same day. Call 07736 879575 for an ETA.

In depth

Materials, methods and variations.

Jetting is calibration work. The right pressure, nozzle and technique for the pipe material and deposit type — that's what separates a clean job from a damage claim. Here's how we approach it across Essex, Suffolk and London.

Discuss your project

Equipment we run

Industrial water-jetter trailer-mounted units with calibrated pressure control 1000–4000 PSI. Multiple nozzle types in stock: forward-firing for blockage cutting, backward-firing for hose advance and debris flushing, rotating for pipe-wall scouring, chain-flail for root cutting, percussive for hard scale. Push-rod CCTV camera for pre and post documentation. Wet-vac recovery for waste capture on commercial.

Pipe materials & pressure ranges

Vitrified clay: 2000–3000 PSI depending on age and condition. PVC: 3000–4000 PSI. Cast iron: 2500–3500 PSI. Pitch-fibre: 1000–2000 PSI maximum (fragile). Concrete commercial: 3500–4000 PSI. Lead waste: low-pressure mechanical only. We dial pressure on site after inspecting the pipe — there is no 'one setting fits all'.

Deposits we clear

Cooking fat and grease in kitchen runs (most common domestic). Calcified scale in older hard-water areas (Essex chalk groundwater is a major contributor). Tree-root ingress through joints (mature gardens in Colchester, Wivenhoe and Ipswich). Compacted silt in surface-water gullies and soakaway connections. Wet-wipes and rag bundles in soil runs. Building debris in post-construction commercial sites.

Domestic vs commercial

Domestic jetting: typically £180–£400 for a planned clean with CCTV, 90–180 minutes on site. Commercial: trailer-mounted equipment, two-engineer crew, scheduled visits, wet-vac waste recovery, written reports — quoted on site footprint and scope.

When jetting isn't the answer

If a pipe is structurally damaged, jetting may relieve the immediate symptom but the blockage will return because the defect itself is trapping debris. The fix is structural repair (lining or excavation) plus a one-off clean. We diagnose this on CCTV before quoting, so you don't pay for jetting that won't last.
